«He is God of the living and not of the dead, and for him all are alive»
Today, Jesus makes it clear his claim about resurrection and eternal life. Sadducees doubted, or even worse, they ridiculed the belief in eternal life after death, which was defended —instead— by the Pharisees and we also defend it.
The question the Sadducees asked to Jesus «On the day of the resurrection, to which of them will the woman be wife? For the seven had her as wife?» (Lk 20:33) let us catch sight of a possessive sort of juridical mindset, demanding proprietary rights over a person. Furthermore, the trap set up for Jesus raises an equivocal still existing today: imagining eternal life as an extension, after death, of the earthen existence. Heaven would, thus, consist of the transposition of the beautiful things we now enjoy.
To believe in eternal life is one thing, but to imagine what it will be like is another thing altogether different. When a mystery is not surrounded by respect and discretion, it risks being trivialized by curiosity and, finally, ridiculed.
Jesus' answer has two parts. In the first one, He tries to make clear that the marriage institution has no reason to be in the other life: «those who are considered worthy of the world to come and of resurrection from the dead, there is no more marriage» (Lk 20:35). What does persists and reaches its maximum fullness is whatever we have sowed in this world as far as authentic love, friendship, fraternity, justice and truth... are concerned.
The second part of the answer leaves two certitudes with us: «For he is God of the living and not of the dead» (Lk 20:38). To trust in this God means to realize we are meant to be alive. And being alive consists of being with Him in a continuous manner, forever. Furthermore, «and for him all are alive» (Lk 20:38): God is the source of life. The believer, submerged in God through the Baptism, has been able to escape forever from the clutches of death. «Love becomes an accomplished fact, if it is included in a love that truly provides eternity» (Benedict XVI).

O Gentlest Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory have mercy on the soul of Your departed servant.
Be not severe in Your judgement, but let some drops of Your
Precious Blood fall upon them, and send, O merciful Saviour, Your angels to conduct them
to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen.

TODAY’S second collection is for the electricity and the maintenance of the church. Thank you.
The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Michael Chapel continues next Tuesday, November 12th from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
BOOK OF LIFE. At the entrance of the church we have the “Book of Life” where you can write the names of your love ones who departed this year. We will pray for them at every Mass during the month of November.
OUR SECOND COLLECTION next weekend November 16-17th will be for the Bishop’s Appeal. Thank you.
FAITH FORMATION. The classes for adults to grow in you faith and have a personal encounter with Jesus will continued next Sunday, November 17th in the Hospitality Lounge, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
MISSALS. The St. Joseph Sunday Missals for the new year 2010 will be available next week after all masses. You can also get them in the rectory during office hours. The cost is $5.00 each.
THE SOULS IN PURGATORY
According to Catholic teaching, there are three states of the Church: the Church Militant, the Church Penitent, and the Church Triumphant. We are the Church Militant because we are still living our earthly life and are active in spiritual warfare on Earth. The Church Penitent are those who are in Purgatory, who are being purified so as to be fit for entering Heaven. The Church Triumphant are those who are already in Heaven. During All Souls’ Day, which is celebrated on November 2nd, we pray for the Church Penitent, for those in Purgatory who are being purified, to lighten the burden of their purification and hasten their journey to Heaven. While the Church has not formally stated that souls in Purgatory are aware of us and can hear our petitions, it is traditionally thought that they are able to pray for us, but not for themselves. Therefore, we will still ask for their intercession with prayers trusting that even if the souls in Purgatory are unable to hear our petitions, God will hear and answer us. About All Souls’ Day. The Bible states that, “nothing impure can enter Heaven” (Rev. 21:27). Because of our sinful nature, purification must take place at some point before we can enter Heaven. The Church teaches us that this purification happens either on Earth or in Purgatory. The practice of praying for the dead as they go through this time of purification is a practice that goes back centuries. There is an example of it in 2 Maccabees: “Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be absolved from their sin” (2 Macc. 12:46).In Dante’s Purgatorio, the souls in Purgatory must climb up a mountain to reach Paradiso (Heaven). In Purgatory, they confront all their sins and are purified of them, starting at the bottom with the root of all sin, pride, and continuing up through the rest of the seven deadly sins. There are also souls who, because they delayed in starting their spiritual journey on Earth, are delayed in starting their journey up Mount Purgatory, so these who are delayed in starting their climb in Dante’s representation will make up with our prayer.

«No es un Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, porque para Él todos viven»
Hoy, Jesús hace una clara afirmación de la resurrección y de la vida eterna. Los saduceos ponían en duda, o peor todavía, ridiculizaban la creencia en la vida eterna después de la muerte, que —en cambio— era defendida por los fariseos y lo es también por nosotros.
La pregunta que hacen los saduceos a Jesús «¿de cuál de ellos será mujer en la resurrección? Porque los siete la tuvieron por mujer» (Lc 20,33) deja entrever una mentalidad jurídica de posesión, una reivindicación del derecho de propiedad sobre una persona. Además, la trampa que ponen a Jesús muestra un equívoco que todavía existe hoy; imaginar la vida eterna como una prolongación, después de la muerte, de la existencia terrenal. El cielo consistiría en la transposición de las cosas bonitas que ahora gozamos.
Una cosa es creer en la vida eterna y otra es imaginarse cómo será. El misterio que no está rodeado de respeto y discreción, peligra ser banalizado por la curiosidad y, finalmente, ridiculizado.
La respuesta de Jesús tiene dos partes. En la primera quiere hacer entender que la institución del matrimonio ya no tiene razón de ser en la otra vida: «Los que alcancen a ser dignos de tener parte en aquel mundo y en la resurrección de entre los muertos, ni ellos tomarán mujer ni ellas marido» (Lc 20,35). Lo que sí perdura y llega a su máxima plenitud es todo lo que hayamos sembrado de amor auténtico, de amistad, de fraternidad, de justicia y verdad...
El segundo momento de la respuesta nos deja dos certezas: «No es un Dios de muertos, sino de vivos» (Lc 20,38). Confiar en este Dios quiere decir darnos cuenta de que estamos hechos para la vida. Y la vida consiste en estar con Él de manera ininterrumpida, para siempre. Además, «para Él todos viven» (Lc 20,38): Dios es la fuente de la vida. El creyente, sumergido en Dios por el bautismo, ha sido arrancado para siempre del dominio de la muerte. «El amor se convierte en una realidad cumplida si se incluye en un amor que proporcione realmente eternidad» (Benedicto XVI).

ten piedad de las almas del purgatorio y especialmente de aquellas
que están totalmente olvidadas.
Líbralas de los amargos dolores, llévalas a ti y envuélvelas
en tus brazos en el Cielo.

ADORACION. La adoración del Santísimo en la capilla de San Miguel continúa este martes, 12 de noviembre de 7:00 a.m. a 5:30 p.m.
LA VIRGEN se llevará mañana lunes 11 de noviembre a las 7:00 p.m. a la casa de Julieth M. Bailey-Martínez, donde se rezará el rosario y permanecerá allí por todo el mes. Julieth vive en Sion Farm al lado de la escuela de Lew Muckle.
LIBRO DE LA VIDA. En el podio de la entrada de la iglesia, tenemos el Libro de la Vida “Book of Life” donde pueden escribir los nombres de sus seres queridos que han fallecido éste año. Estaremos rezando por ellos durante todo el mes de noviembre.
LA SEGUNDA COLECTA del próximo domingo, 17 de noviembre será para la Súplica del Obispo. Gracias.
VIRGEN DE LA PROVIDENCIA. La fiesta de la Vírgen de la Providencia, patrona de Puerto Rico es el 19 de noviembre. Nosotros la celebraremos el próximo domingo 17 de noviembre durante la misa de las 9:00 a.m. Después de la misa tendremos un compartir en el Salón de Hospitalidad. Por que rezar por la lamas del purgatorio
Dios desea que las ayudemos
Ellas son los amigos más queridos. El desea ayudarlos; El desea mucho tenerlos cerca de Él en el Cielo. Ellas nunca más lo ofenderán, y están destinadas a estar con Él por toda la Eternidad. Verdad, la Justicia de Dios demanda expiación por los pecados, pero por una asombrosa dispensación de Su Providencia Él pone en nuestras manos la posibilidad de asistirlos, Él nos da el poder de aliviarlas y aún de liberarlas. Nada le place más a Dios que les ayudemos. Él está tan agradecido como si le ayudáramos a Él.
Nuestra Señora quiere que los ayudemos
Nunca, nunca una madre de esta tierra amó tan tiernamente a sus hijos fallecidos, nunca nadie consuela como María busca consolar sus sufrientes niños en el Purgatorio, y tenerlos con Ella en el Cielo. Le daremos gran regocijo cada vez que llevamos fuera del Purgatorio a un alma.
Las benditas ánimas del purgatorio nos devuelven el mil por uno. Pero ¿qué podremos decir de los sentimientos de las Santas Almas? ¡Sería prácticamente imposible de describir su ilimitada gratitud con para aquellos que las ayudan! Llenas de un inmenso deseo de pagar los favores hechos por ellas, ruegan por sus benefactores con un fervor tan grande, tan intenso, tan constante, que Dios no les puede negar nada. Santa Catalina de Bologna dice: "He recibido muchos y grandes favores de los Santos, pero mucho más grandes de las Santas Almas (del Purgatorio)".
Cuando finalmente son liberadas de sus penas y disfrutan de la beatitud del Cielo, lejos de olvidar a sus amigos de la Tierra, su gratitud no conoce límites. Postradas frente al Trono de Dios, no cesan de orar por aquellos que los ayudaron. Por sus oraciones ellas protegen a sus amigos de los peligros y los protegen de los demonios que los asechan.
No cesan de orar hasta ver a sus benefactores seguros en el Cielo, y serán por siempre sus más queridos, sinceros y mejores amigos.
Si los católicos solamente supieran cuan poderosos protectores se aseguran con sólo ayudar a las Ánimas benditas, no serían tan remisos de orar por ellos.
