«Do you think that I have come to bring peace on earth?»
Today, -from Jesus’ very lips- we can hear the frightening avowal: «I have come to bring fire upon the earth» (Lk 12:49); «Do you think that I have come to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you» (Lk 12:51). Being faithful to God entails division. For truth is opposed to lies and deception; the spirit of charity is the opposite of a selfish spirit; justice is the opposite of injustice...
In the world -and inside us- there is a mixture of good and bad; and we must take sides, must take an option, while being conscious that faithfulness is “uncomfortable”. It seems far easier to compromise, but it is certainly far less evangelical.
We would like to have “the Gospels” and “a Jesus” tailored to measure and going by our individual taste and passions. But we must convince ourselves that Christian life is not just a simple “routine”, a matter of “just keep going”, without a constant desire for improvement and perfection. Benedict XVI maintains that «Jesus Christ is not just a private conviction or an abstract idea, but a real person, whose becoming part of human history is capable of renewing the life of every man and woman».
The supreme model is Jesus (we must “stare at Him fixedly”, especially when in trouble or if persecuted). He voluntarily accepted the ordeal of the Cross in order to restore our freedom and recuperate our happiness: «In his crucified flesh, God’s freedom and our human freedom met definitively in an inviolable, eternally valid pact» (Benedict XVI). If we get our mind stay put on Jesus we shall never lose heart. His sacrifice represents the contrary to the spiritual lack of enthusiasm, which so often engulfs us.
Loyalty requires courage and ascetical fight. Sin and evil are constantly tempting us, and this is why a courageous fight and effort along with our participation in the Passion of Jesus Christ are a peremptory requirement. Hating sin is not easy. The kingdom of Heaven demands efforts, fight and violence upon us, and the violent take it by force (cf. Mt 11:12).

QUEENSHIP OF MARY
Lord, Let the entire body of the faithful pour forth persevering prayer to the Mother of God and Mother of men. Let them implore that she who aided the beginnings of the Church by her prayers may now, exalted as she is in heaven above all the saints and angels, intercede with her Son in the fellowship of all the saints. May she do so until all the peoples of the human family, whether they are honored with the name of Christians or whether they still do not know their Savior, are happily gathered together in peace and harmony into the one People of God, for the glory of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity. Amen.

PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS

FAITH FORMATION. The classes to grow in you faith and have a personal encounter with Jesus by rediscovering Jesus will continued this Sunday, August 18th in the Hospitality Lounge, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Michael Chapel continues next Tuesday, August 20th from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
St. Joseph High School has registration on Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. for school year 2016-2017. Scholarship available for all students, non catholic as well as Catholic. Please call the school office at 692-2455 - 642-5284 or the rectory at 692-2005.
OUR SECOND COLLECTION next weekend August 24-25th will be for the maintenance and the electricity of the church. Thank you.
THE DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION will be this Sunday, August 25th at 3:00 p.m. There will be confessions during the Chaplet and we will end at 4:00 p.m. with the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Everyone is invited.
JUST A REMINDER. During the summer, many people go away for a period of renewal and enjoyment. The financial obligations of the parish, on the other hand, stay with us all year. Please remember to use your envelopes during the summer. Your help is much needed and will be greatly appreciated.

«¿Creéis que he venido a traer paz a la tierra?»
Hoy -de labios de Jesús- escuchamos afirmaciones estremecedoras: «He venido a encender fuego en el mundo» (Lc 12,49); «¿creéis que he venido a traer paz a la tierra? Pues os digo que no, sino división» (Lc 12,51). Y es que la verdad divide frente a la mentira; la caridad ante el egoísmo, la justicia frente a la injusticia…
En el mundo -y en nuestro interior- hay mezcla de bien y de mal; y hemos de tomar partido, optar, siendo conscientes de que la fidelidad es “incómoda”. Parece más fácil contemporizar, pero a la vez es menos evangélico.
Nos tienta hacer un “evangelio” y un “Jesús” a nuestra medida, según nuestros gustos y pasiones. Hemos de convencernos de que la vida cristiana no puede ser una pura rutina, un “ir tirando”, sin un constante afán de mejorar y de perfección. Benedicto XVI ha afirmado que «Jesucristo no es una simple convicción privada o una doctrina abstracta, es una persona real cuya entrada en la historia es capaz de renovar la vida de todos».
El modelo supremo es Jesús (hemos de “tener la mirada puesta en Él”, especialmente en las dificultades y persecuciones). Él aceptó voluntariamente el suplicio de la Cruz para reparar nuestra libertad y recuperar nuestra felicidad: «La libertad de Dios y la libertad del hombre se han encontrado definitivamente en su carne crucificada» (Benedicto XVI). Si tenemos presente a Jesús, no nos dejaremos abatir. Su sacrificio representa lo contrario de la tibieza espiritual en la que frecuentemente nos instalamos nosotros.
La fidelidad exige valentía y lucha ascética. El pecado y el mal constantemente nos tientan: por eso se impone la lucha, el esfuerzo valiente, la participación en la Pasión de Cristo. El odio al pecado no es cosa pacífica. El reino del cielo exige esfuerzo, lucha y violencia con nosotros mismos, y quienes hacen este esfuerzo son quienes lo conquistan (cf. Mt 11,12).

Cuando me desprecien u olviden, ámame. Amén.

FORMACION DE FE Las clases que el P. John Mark da para crecer en tu fe y tener un encuentro personal con Jesús continúan hoy domingo 18 de agosto de 4:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m. en el Salón de Hospitalidad.
ADORACION. La adoración del Santísimo en la capilla de San Miguel continúa este martes, 20 de agosto de 7:00 a.m. a 5:30 p.m.
La Escuela Superior de San José está teniendo ahora la matrícula para el año escolar 2019-2020 en la oficina de la escuela de lunes a viernes de 8:00 a.m. a 12:00 p.m. Hay becas disponibles para todos los estudiantes católicos y no católicos. Favor de llamar a la escuela al 692-2455 - 642-5284.
LA DEVOCION A LA DIVINA MISERICORDIA será el próximo domingo 25 de agosto a las 3:00 p.m. Habrá una pequeña meditación, y confesiones durante el rezo de la coronilla, finalizará a las 4:00 p.m. con la bendición del Santísimo. Todos están invitados.
RECORDATORIO. Durante el verano, muchas personas se van por un periodo de tiempo para renovarse y disfrutar. Por otro lado, las obligaciones financieras de la parroquia las tenemos todo el año. Les recordamos que usen sus sobres durante el verano. Su ayuda es muy apreciada y necesitada.
LA SEGUNDA COLECTA del próximo domingo, 25 de agosto será para el mantenimiento y la electricidad de la Iglesia. Gracias.
