«Bring them here to me»
Today, Jesus shows us just how much He wants to involve us in his saving work. He who had created the heavens and the earth out of nothing, could have easily created a rich banquet from nothing to satiate the multitudes.
But He preferred to work the miracle starting with the best his disciples could give him. «We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish» (Mt 14:17), they said. «Bring them here to me» (Mt 14:18), Jesus replied. The Lord was able to multiply that meager donation —not enough even to feed a typical family— to nourish about 5000 families.
The Lord showed the same protocol at the wedding feast of Cana. He who created all the seas could easily have filled the six 30-gallon containers with choice wine from scratch. But He again wanted to involve his creatures in the miracle, by having them fill the containers with water first.
We see the same principle in the celebration of the Eucharist. Jesus begins not from nothing, nor from grain and grapes, but from bread and wine, which already contain within the work of human hands.
The late Cardinal François Xavier Nguyen van Thuan, imprisoned from 1975-1988 by the Vietnamese communists, wondered how he could further Christ's kingdom and care for his flock while undergoing the brutal suffering of solitary confinement. He realized he might not be able to do much from a prison cell, but at least each day he could offer to the Lord his “five loaves and two fish,” and let God do the rest. The Lord multiplied those little efforts into a witness that has inspired not only the Vietnamese but the whole Church.
Today the Lord is asking us, his modern disciples, to give the crowds something to eat (cf. Mt 14:16). No matter how much or how little we have, let us give it to the Lord and let him take it from there.

THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD - Feast Day August 6
The point of the Transfiguration was to reinforce the staggering faith of the apostles. As Jesus, Peter, James, and John return from the mountain, they find the other apostles trying to drive a demon out of a man and unable to do so. When they ask why the exorcism won't work, Jesus says it is because of their staggering faith. In the context, what is it that has staggered their faith? It was Jesus' message that He is going to die and that is exactly what the Transfiguration is all about. In such an interesting and compelling way, the Transfiguration illustrates what a careful, sensitive, creative and resourceful teacher Jesus was.
It is significant because it was the glorification of the body of Jesus. Those with Him saw Jesus in His glory. The appearance of Moses and Elijah testified that Jesus was the one of whom the law and prophets spoke. The approving testimony of God the Father further confirmed the identity of Jesus.
In the Transfiguration of Jesus we have the various elements of the coming kingdom represented. There is the glorified King, those who will come into the kingdom through death, those who will come into the kingdom through the transformation of their bodies at the rapture of the church, those Jewish believers who will enter into the millennial reign of Christ in their earthly bodies, as well as the people from the various nations who will also enter into the millennium in non-glorified bodies.

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm. Your, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.
Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen

«Traédmelos»
Hoy, Jesús nos muestra lo mucho que desea involucrarnos en su trabajo de redención. Él, que ha creado el cielo y la tierra de la nada, hubiese podido —de igual forma— haber fácilmente creado un opíparo banquete para saciar a aquella multitud.
Pero prefirió hacer el milagro partiendo de lo único que sus discípulos podían entregarle. «Si aquí no tenemos más que cinco panes y dos peces» (Mt 14,17), le dijeron. «Traédmelos» (Mt 14,18), les respondió Jesús. Y el Señor llevó a cabo la multiplicación de tan exiguo recurso —ni tan sólo suficiente para alimentar a una familia normal— para dar de comer a unas 5000 familias.
El Señor procedió de igual forma en el festín de las bodas de Caná. Él, que creó todos los mares, podía fácilmente haber llenado con el vino más selecto aquellas tinajas de más de 100 litros, partiendo de cero. Pero, de nuevo, prefirió involucrar a sus criaturas en el milagro, haciendo que, primero, llenasen los recipientes de agua.
Y, el mismo principio, podemos apreciarlo en la celebración de la Eucaristía. Jesús empieza no de la nada, ni tampoco de cereales o de uvas, sino del pan y del vino, que ya conllevan en sí el trabajo de manos humanas.
El difunto Cardenal Francisco Javier Nguyen van Thuan, prisionero de los comunistas vietnamitas desde 1975 al 1988, se preguntaba cómo podría favorecer el Reino de Cristo y preocuparse de su rebaño mientras intentaba sobreponerse al brutal sufrimiento de su solitario confinamiento. Y, dándose cuenta de lo poco que podía hacer desde la celda de su cárcel, pensó que, al menos, cada día, podría ofrecer al Señor sus “cinco panes y dos peces” y dejar que Dios hiciese el resto. Y el Señor multiplicó aquellos pequeños esfuerzos convirtiéndolos en un testimonio que ha inspirado no sólo a los vietnamitas, sino a toda la Iglesia.
Hoy, el Señor nos pide a nosotros, sus modernos discípulos, que “demos a las multitudes algo de comer” (cf. Mt 14,16). No importa lo mucho o poco que tengamos: démoslo al Señor y dejemos que Él continúe a partir de ahí.

¿Cuál es el significado e importancia de la Transfiguración?" Fiesta 6 de agosto
Indudablemente, el propósito de la transfiguración de Cristo en al menos una parte de Su gloria celestial, fue para que el “círculo íntimo” de Sus discípulos, pudieran tener una mayor comprensión de quien era Jesús. Cristo experimentó un cambio dramático en Su apariencia, con el fin de que los discípulos pudieran percibir Su gloria. Los discípulos, quienes solo lo habían conocido en Su cuerpo humano, ahora tenían una mayor conciencia de la divinidad de Cristo, aunque no podían comprenderla plenamente. Eso les dio la seguridad que necesitaban después de escuchar las terribles noticias de Su inminente muerte.
Los discípulos nunca olvidaron lo que sucedió ese día en el monte y sin duda este fue el propósito. Juan escribió en su evangelio, “Y vimos su gloria, gloria como del unigénito del Padre, lleno de gracia y de verdad.” (Juan 1:14). Pedro también escribió sobre ello, “No seguimos fábulas ingeniosamente inventadas, sino que fuimos testigos oculares de su majestad. Pues cuando El recibió honor y gloria de Dios Padre, la majestuosa Gloria le hizo esta declaración: Este es mi Hijo amado en quien me he complacido; y nosotros mismos escuchamos esta declaración, hecha desde el cielo cuando estábamos con El en el monte santo.” (2 Pedro 1:16-18). Aquellos que fueron testigos de la transfiguración, testificaron de ello a los otros discípulos y a incontables millones a través de los siglos.
Oración del Papa a la Virgen ante la epidemia del coronavirus
Oh María, tu resplandeces siempre en nuestro camino como signo de salvación y de esperanza. Confiamos en ti, Salud de los enfermos, que junto a la cruz te asociaste al dolor de Jesús, manteniendo firme tu fe. Tú, salvación del pueblo romano sabes lo que necesitamos y estamos seguros de que proveerás para que, como en Caná de Galilea pueda volver la alegría y la fiesta después de este momento de prueba. Ayúdanos, Madre del Divino Amor, a conformarnos a la voluntad del Padre y hacer lo que nos diga Jesús que ha tomado sobre sí nuestros sufrimientos y se ha cargado con nuestros dolores para llevarnos, a través de la cruz a la alegría de la resurrección. Amén. Bajo tu amparo nos acogemos, Santa Madre de Dios; no deseches las oraciones que te dirigimos en nuestras necesidades, antes bien líbranos de todo peligro, ¡oh Virgen gloriosa y bendita! ¡Amén!
