«I have called you friends»
Today, we celebrate the last Sunday before the solemnities of the Ascension and the Pentecost that close the Easter celebrations. If all through these Sundays the resurrected Jesus has appeared before us as the Good Shepherd and as the vine which we have to be a part of, as its branches are, today his Heart is open wide for us.
Certainly, in his Heart we can only find love. What constitutes God's deepest mystery is that He is Love. Whatever He has done from his Creation to his redemption through Christ is because of love. Whatever He is expecting from us in response to his actions is just love. This is why his words resound today: «Remain in my love» (Jn 15:9). Love requests reciprocity, it is like having a dialogue that makes us reciprocate with a growing love to his first love.
A fruit of love is joy: «I have told you all this, that my own joy may be in you and your joy may be complete» (Jn 15:11). If our life does not reflect the joy of believing, if we are overwhelmed by our own frustrations and do not realize the Lord is also next to us, consoling us, it is because we do not know Jesus sufficiently well.
God always keeps the initiative. He expressly says so when He affirms «it was I who chose you» (Jn 15:16). We may feel tempted to think it is us who have chosen him, but we have done nothing but answering his call. He has freely chosen us to be his friends: «I shall not call you servants (…). Instead I have called you friends» (Jn 15:15).
In the beginning, God spoke to Adam as a friend speaks to his friend. Christ, the new Adam, has recovered for us not only the previous friendship, but also our intimacy with God, inasmuch as God is Love.
It can all be summarized by saying just this word: “Love”. St. Augustine reminds us so: «The good Master recommends us quite often that charity is the only possible commandment. Without charity all the other good qualities mean nothing. Charity, in fact, leads man necessarily to all the other virtues that make him good».

ROSARY. May is the month of the Rosary. “The Rosary is the most beautiful and most rich in graces of all prayers-Pope Pius X. We will have a day of rosary/adoration on Tuesday, May 11th 2021 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We will be praying for the church, the World and for the reparation of sins. There will be a period of silence each hour to make your own personal petitions to our Blessed Mother. All are invited to come together to pray the Rosary and bring peace in our world of crisis, conflict and turmoil. “The Rosary is the best weapon for these times” Padre Pio.
BISHOP’S APPEAL. There is still time to make your gift to the Bishop's Appeal 2021. We need your help to reach our goal. Please support our Catholic schools, the Bethlehem Houses on St. Thomas and St. Croix, our soup kitchens on all three islands and the evangelization efforts which promote the mission of the local Church. God our creator, we come before You and lift up in prayer all mothers,
grandmothers, stepmothers and mothers to be who gave the gift of life.
We give you thanks for their presence, talents and gifts
which they share in our church, society and world.
May all mothers know of Your loving
and gentle presence and may they always turn towards You
in times of joy, sorrow and glory.

«A vosotros os he llamado amigos»
Hoy celebramos el último domingo antes de las solemnidades de la Ascensión y Pentecostés, que cierran la Pascua. Si a lo largo de estos domingos Jesús resucitado se nos ha manifestado como el Buen Pastor y la vid a quien hay que estar unido como los sarmientos, hoy nos abre de par en par su Corazón.
Naturalmente, en su Corazón sólo encontramos amor. Aquello que constituye el misterio más profundo de Dios es que es Amor. Todo lo que ha hecho desde la creación hasta la redención es por amor. Todo lo que espera de nosotros como respuesta a su acción es amor. Por esto, sus palabras resuenan hoy: «Permaneced en mi amor» (Jn 15,9). El amor pide reciprocidad, es como un diálogo que nos hace corresponder con un amor creciente a su amor primero.
Un fruto del amor es la alegría: «Os he dicho esto, para que mi gozo esté en vosotros» (Jn 15,11). Si nuestra vida no refleja la alegría de creer, si nos dejamos ahogar por las contrariedades sin ver que el Señor también está ahí presente y nos consuela, es porque no hemos conocido suficientemente a Jesús.
Dios siempre tiene la iniciativa. Nos lo dice expresamente al afirmar que «yo os he elegido» (Jn 15,16). Nosotros sentimos la tentación de pensar que hemos escogido, pero no hemos hecho nada más que responder a una llamada. Nos ha escogido gratuitamente para ser amigos: «No os llamo ya siervos (...); a vosotros os he llamado amigos» (Jn 15,15).
En los comienzos, Dios habla con Adán como un amigo habla con su amigo. Cristo, nuevo Adán, nos ha recuperado no solamente la amistad de antes, sino la intimidad con Dios, ya que Dios es Amor.
Todo se resume en esta palabra: “amar”. Nos lo recuerda san Agustín: «El Maestro bueno nos recomienda tan frecuentemente la caridad como el único mandamiento posible. Sin la caridad todas las otras buenas cualidades no sirven de nada. La caridad, en efecto, conduce al hombre necesariamente a todas las otras virtudes que lo hacen bueno».

Amado Señor, en tu palabra, nos enseñaste a honrar a nuestras madres.
En este día tan especial,
te damos gracias y oramos por todas las madres.
Acompáñalas en todo momento.
Pon en cada madre el amor y conocimiento de Dios
para que se lo enseñen a sus hijos/as,
ya que no hay mejor herencia para un hijo o hija que la de fe
y esperanza en las promesas de Jesucristo.
Bendice a las madres cuyos hijos/as están lejos en este día.
Anímalas en la ausencia. Si la distancia causa tristeza,
haz que los corazones se unan por el amor de Jesucristo. Amén.

LA SEGUNDA COLECTA de hoy es para la Súplica del Obispo. Gracias.
ROSARIO. La Virgen se llevará mañana lunes 10 de mayo a las 7:00 p.m. a la casa de Basilio y Gloria Bencosme, en Estate La Reine, donde se rezará el rosario y permanecerá allí por todo el mes. Para los que no saben donde viven, nos reuniremos enfrente de McDonald’s las 6:45 p.m. para salir a las 7:00 p.m.
ROSARIO. Mayo es el mes del Rosario. “El Rosario es la más bella y más rica en gracias de todas las oraciones-Papa Pío X. Tendremos un día de rosario / adoración el próximo martes 11 de mayo de 7:00 a.m. a 5:30 p.m. Estaremos orando por la iglesia, el mundo y por la reparación de los pecados. Habrá un período de silencio cada hora para hacer sus propias peticiones personales a nuestra Santísima Madre. Todos están invitados a unirse para rezar el Rosario y traer paz a nuestro mundo de crisis, conflicto y confusión. El rosario en español se rezará de 3:00 a 4:00 de la tarde.
LA segunda colecta del próximo domingo 16 de mayo será para la Campaña de la Comunicación Católica. Gracias.
