«Unless the grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit»
Today, in the last part of Lent, the Church proposes this Gospel to help us attain Palm Sunday ready to live up to these mysteries so outstanding for our Christian life. The Via crucis, or the Way of the Cross, becomes for us Christians a “via lucis”, or the Way of Light, for dying is to be born again or, even better, we must die to this world so that we can live the Truth.
In the first part of this Gospel, Jesus tells the Apostles: «Unless the grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit» (Jn 12:24). In this respect, St. Augustine comments: «Jesus said He was “grain”, that was to be mortified, to multiply afterwards; He was to be mortified by the infidelity of the Jews and He was to multiply for the faith of all the people». The bread of the Eucharist, made out of grains of wheat, is multiplied and divided to nourish all Christians. Dying in martyrdom always bear fruit; this is why «Those who love their life», paradoxically, «destroy it». Christ died to bear, with his blood, fruit; we have to imitate Him to resurrect with Him and bear fruit with Him. Many are those who offer their lives silently for the welfare of their brothers. Through silence and self effacement we have to learn to become that grain that dies to get back to Life.
The Gospel of this Sunday ends with an exhortation to walk in the light of the Son lifted up from the earth: «And when I am lifted up from the earth, I shall draw all to myself» (Jn 12:32). Let God's light shine always through us to help us dissipating all darkness. It is God's moment now, let us not lose it! «Are you sleeping?; the time granted to you goes by fast!» (St. Ambrose of Milan). We must not stop being a light to the world. As the moon gets its light from the sun, we are to be seen reflecting God's light.

LENT PRAYER
Oh God, Whatever I can give
up for Lent will never match what you gave.
I’m not able to do what you have done,
and my small actions serve only as desperate
wildflowers waving in an open
field of your mercy, in surrender
to your majesty.
As I clear away distractions you invite me to let go of,
hear my prayer of gratitude. That you are real.
That you are truth. That you prepare a place for me whether
I am in want or in plenty.
Thank you for the ultimate
sacrifice of your only Son, Jesus, so that I can know
that no matter what the world
tempts me with there is power to overcome.

The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Michael Chapel continues next Tuesday, March 23rd from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.LENT RULES AND REGULATIONS. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat for Catholics over 14 years old. Ash Wednesday (Feb. 17) and Good Friday (April 2) are days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59. Fasting means taking only one full meal and two smaller meals that, taken together, do not equal one full meal.
THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS are every Friday, we start with the pro-life rosary at 5:00 p.m. Stations of the Cross 5:30 p.m. followed by the Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The Spanish community will have the Stations of the Cross around the school grounds.
PALM SUNDAY. Next Sunday, March 28th is Palm Sunday. Our masses will start 30 minutes early: 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, 6:30 a.m. (8:30 a.m. Spanish) and 10:30 a.m. with the blessing of the palms under the tree.
EASTER FLOWERS. We are appealing to your generosity to help us with the cost of the Easter flowers. Your contributions are needed and very appreciated. Thank you.
BISHOP'S APPEAL 2021 . On February 17th, the Church throughout the world celebrated the beginning of the holy season of Lent with the Masses of Ash Wednesday. Lent is a special time when we repent of our sins by our contrition. It is a special time when we show our love for God by giving alms. Share your blessings this Lent with those who need your help by supporting the work of Catholic Charities through the annual Bishop's Appeal. OUR CONDOLENCES to José Figueroa on the death of her wife Pauline. May her soul and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. May our Lord Jesus take them to the glory of his Kingdom and give José and family comfort and peace. The funeral will be next Tuesday, March 23 viewing at 10:00 a.m. Mass at 11:00 a.m.
THE DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION will be next Sunday, March 28th at 3:00 p.m. There will be confessions during the Chaplet and we will end at 4:00 p.m. with the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Everyone is invited.

«Si el grano de trigo no cae en tierra y muere, queda él solo; pero si muere, da mucho fruto»
Hoy, la Iglesia, en el último tramo de la Cuaresma, nos propone este Evangelio para ayudarnos a llegar al Domingo de Ramos bien preparados en vista a vivir estos misterios tan centrales en la vida cristiana. El Via Crucis es para el cristiano un "via lucis", el morir es un volver a nacer, y, más aun, es necesario morir para vivir de verdad.
En la primera parte del Evangelio, Jesús dice a los Apóstoles: «Si el grano de trigo no cae en tierra y muere, queda él solo; pero si muere, da mucho fruto» (Jn 12,24). San Agustín comenta al respecto: «Jesús se dice a Sí mismo "grano", que había de ser mortificado, para después multiplicarse; que tenía que ser mortificado por la infidelidad de los judíos y ser multiplicado para la fe de todos los pueblos». El pan de la Eucaristía, hecho de grano de trigo, se multiplica y se parte para ser alimento de todos los cristianos. La muerte del martirio es siempre fecunda; por esto, «quienes aman la vida», paradójicamente, la «pierden». Cristo muere para dar, con su sangre, fruto: nosotros le hemos de imitar para resucitar con Él y dar fruto con Él. ¿Cuántos dan en silencio su vida por el bien de los hermanos? Desde el silencio y la humildad hemos de aprender a ser grano que muere para volver a la Vida.
El Evangelio de este domingo acaba con una exhortación a caminar a la luz del Hijo exaltado en lo alto de la tierra: «Y yo cuando sea levantado de la tierra, atraeré a todos hacia mí» (Jn 12,32). Tenemos que pedir al buen Dios que en nosotros sólo haya luz y que Él nos ayude a disipar toda sombra. Ahora es el momento de Dios, ¡no lo dejemos perder! «¿Dormís?, ¡el tiempo que se os ha concedido pasa!» (San Ambrosio de Milán). No podemos dejar de ser luz en nuestro mundo. Como la luna recibe su luz del sol, en nosotros han de ver la luz de Dios.

Oh Dios, todo lo que pueda renunciar durante
la Cuaresma nunca igualará lo que diste.
No puedo hacer lo que has hecho,
y mis pequeñas acciones solo sirven como
flores silvestres desesperadas ondeando
en un campo abierto de tu misericordia,
en rendición a tu majestad.
Mientras elimino las distracciones,
me invitas a dejarlas, escucha mi oración de gratitud.

ANUNCIOS DE LA PARROQUIA

FORMACION DE FE. Las clases virtuales en inglés para adultos que el P. ADORACION. La adoración del Santísimo en la capilla de San Miguel continúa este martes, 23 de marzo de 7:00 a.m. a 5:30 p.m.
REGLAS DE CUARESMA. Todos los viernes de Cuaresma son días de abstinencia de carne para los católicos mayores de 14 años. El Miércoles de Ceniza (17 de febrero) y el Viernes Santo (2 de abril) son días de ayuno y abstinencia para los católicos entre las edades de 18 y 59. Ayunar significa tomar solo una comida completa.
VIA CRUCIS. El Vía Crucis se reza todos los viernes comenzando a las 5:00 p.m. con el rosario por la vida, seguido del Vía Crucis a las 5:30 p.m. Como es nuestra costumbre lo haremos alrededor de la escuela. Después del Vía Crucis tendremos la adoración y la bendición del Santísimo en la iglesia. Ven y acompáñanos a caminar con Jesús en su calvario.
DOMINGO DE RAMOS. El próximo domingo 28 de marzo es Domingo de Ramos. Nuestra misa comenzará a las 8:30 a.m. en el área del árbol y vendremos en procesión hacia la iglesia.
FLORES DE PASCUA. Nuevamente apelamos a su generosidad para que nos ayuden a sufragar los gastos de las flores de Pascua. Su contribución es necesaria y muy apreciada. Gracias.
NUESTRAS CONDOLENCIAS a nuestro hermano en Cristo José Figueróa en la muerte de su esposa Pauline. Que el Señor la tenga en la gloria de su Reino y que le de a José y familia consuelo y paz. El funeral será el próximo martes 23 de marzo, la vista a las 10 :00 a.m. y la misa a las 11:00 a.m.

LA DEVOCION A LA DIVINA MISERICORDIA será el próximo domingo 28 de marzo a las 3:00 p.m. Habrá una pequeña meditación, y confesiones durante el rezo de la coronilla, finalizará a las 4:00 p.m. con la bendición del Santísimo. Todos están invitados.
